Students have the option of taking extra certificates in subjects such as Excel, Word, Databases, Microsoft Project, Google Analytics, Hubspot and many more. These extra certifications will give graduates that extra edge when applying for jobs. According to the Central Statistics Office , in the highest average weekly earnings were in the Information and Communication sector, exactly where graduates of this programme will be working.
The job prospects for graduates with multi-disciplinary skills are particularly healthy and not just reliant on IT Multinationals in the East of the country.
Graduates of this programme can expect to employed in a wide variety of industries in the Midlands and further afield. The work placement occurs in January of Year 3.
Because of the broad scope of the BIS programme, and because of the fact that Information Systems are used in so many different types of organisations, the placement can be in any organisation locally, nationally, or even internationally. So there is maximum flexibility to ensure that the student gains a valuable experience during this time.
The college will assist students getting the placement, however the responsibility ultimately rests with the student to secure one. Payment is at the discretion of the employer, however, students will be eligible to continue receiving grants if they are entitled to one. The placement is usually 6 months, however the student is free to negotiate with the employer to extend the time spent in the company.
